STAGE COACH PANTO GROUP’S 2018 PANTO “CINDERELLA” is a HUGE SUCCESS IN CONNA!
No surprise there, as tickets have been completely SOLD OUT since a brief one-day release last October. A huge cast made up of amazing local talent, not nearly represented here in photos, have rehearsed diligently with the incorrigible Choreographer and Producer, Niamh Twomey. With Director Marie Barry & Musical Director Ellen O’Keeffe with a production team headed by Lorraine Dillon under the Stage Coach Panto Group this endeavour always promised entertainment by the shed load. Not to mention the amazing casting…look at our local celebs!…would ye ? Bravo to the whole team. Let’s not forget the stellar effort put in by the crew who have rehearsed alongside the cast in lighting, sets, sound, costume, make-up, hall management, publicity, etc., etc….you know who you are. The amazing sponsorship! All proceeds go to Ballynoe, Conna & Curraglass N.S. Parents Associations…equally.

CONNA VILLAGE ENHANCEMENT SCHEME UPDATE
A real work in progress…Conna Cross and Roche’s Hotel. More painting was done on Roche’s last night by a small group of volunteers with paint provided by the new owner. The cross would be done by now but for the E.S.B. and Airtricity who are holding up the whole project. Without the removal of the post in the middle of the square and connecting the new lights, the benches, the railings and sculpture can’t be installed and we are in a state of limbo. Many thanks to James for his help in watering the grass seed in this very dry spell. Unfortunately with the impending hosepipe ban we may have to reseed. Fortunately the roses, trees and plants seem to have taken and are growing well.

GALA EVENING
1916-2016 CENTENARY COMMEMORATIONS
On Easter Sunday, 27th March, 2016 at 12:30pm a great crowd braved the hailstones and the wind, gathering at Conna Cross to mark the lives lost during the Easter Rising of 1916. Members of Castlelyons Pipe Band ledthe way in a parade from the church to the bridge, followed by members of the Irish United Nations Veterans Association. Accompanied by a rare spell of sunshine, the commemoration proceeded with profound and heartfelt speeches from Gerard O’Mahony, the Rev. Eileen Cremin and Father Billy Donovan. Marie Barry read the Irish Proclamation, the Irish flag was raised and Mary Barry’s wonderful band of talented musicians, young and not so young, brought us the perfect music for the occasion and led us in the singing of the national anthem. Oliver Twomey and Breed Tobin McGrath laid a wreath at the Commemoration stone and Sandra Jackson played The Last Post. All in all, the greatest respect was shown for Irish history, our country and our hopes for the future. For a gallery of photos please click this link
