1916-2016 Centenary Commemoration

Time: 12:30 pm  to  1:30 pm

Pipers from Castlelyons Pipe Band will lead a parade from the Church Car Park to the memorial plaque at Conna Bridge.The plaque has had added to its Celtic interlaced pillars: 1916 on the left and 2016 on the right.The commemoration will include clergy from the Catholic & Church of Ireland communities.The proclamation will be read, the National Flag flown and the Last Post played by a bugler from the United Nations Ex Servicemen’s Association. Mary Barry our musical conductor is busily working with the school children. They will sing some appropriate songs and play The National Anthem, a wreath will laid at the plaque.

This is a solemn event to remember the men and women who gave of their lives so that we might have a republic and become a free people. It is in no way a triumphalist exhibition, we will remember our dead as every country does theirs.

Everyone is welcome to attend, The Community Council invites you to come along in the spirit of the occasion and join in the event. Many of you will remember 1966, that was a wonderful occasion and all of the people of this area gladly supported the event.
